Bringing Home the Gold (Safely)

Let’s take a moment to celebrate and take pride in our recent RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) award win. STANLEY Security is honoured to have been selected as the recipient of a Gold award by RoSPA; the Gold award is in recognition of the continuous improvement that STANLEY Security has done to achieve our "Zero Harm" Vision.

The RoSPA Awards are highly-respected in the Health & Safety arena, with 2,000 entrants every year and select organisations which have proven excellence in the workplace, demonstrating a commitment to the wellbeing of not only employees but all those who interact with it as well.

It is pleasing to know that our hard work and the dedication that we display towards health and safety is taken seriously not just by individuals from within STANLEY Security, but that renowned peers from within the industry have chosen to shine a light on our efforts as well. STANLEY Security has always made health and safety a key priority within our organisation, and in regards to our customers as well.

We actively encourage a culture within STANLEY Security so our colleagues know that our health and safety procedures and regulations have been put in place for their benefit. We consistently document by recording, monitoring and reviewing all internal accidents to study how they can be avoided in the future.

We had to supply a range of documentation to RoSPA to be considered for the award; we sent them examples of health and safety documentation generated by STANLEY Security to prove that not only were we keeping note of any incidences, but were also working actively towards continued improvements in our practices. Our documentation was reviewed and judged by independent health and safety representatives from NEBOSH (The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health), Manchester and Aston Universities, the Engineering Construction Industry Association, RoSPA, Southern Water, Unite the union and Sainsburys’. Based on the evidence provided, this esteemed panel selected STANLEY Security to be heads and shoulders above any of the competition in the category.

Our RoSPA Gold award win is not just cause for celebration for the hard work that we invest in maintaining our health and safety, but also is an active opportunity to prove to our large and small clients alike our expertise and capabilities in the health and safety arena.

We at STANLEY Security do not practice health and safety for accolades (though they do help!) but believe that a safe and comfortable workforce is a happy and productive workforce. Which is why we are now actively working towards Hazard Reporting and Near Miss Reporting so that accidents are not only dealt with once they occur but so causes of accidents are identified and eliminated even before accidents occur.

We now comb our site during an assessment to identify potential hazards which may be subtle and varied. These ‘near misses’ may not cause immediate harm, but can precede events in which loss or injuries can occur. A near miss can be something as simple as a person carrying a box tripping over a chair placed in his or her pathway; although they didn’t hurt themselves, the next colleague coming along doing the same could have a different, less fortunate consequence.

It is only by engaging in these health and safety practices and continuous improvements that we can continue being an organisation that our peers can look up to as being the flag bearers of health and safety for the workforce - and beyond.
