What ISO 9001:2015 accreditation means for STANLEY Security & its customers

STANLEY Security has always been committed to delivering quality at all levels, from products through to services.  We have been accredited to the BS EN ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System Standard for many years but this year we are delighted to announce we have been awarded ISO 9001:2015 accreditation – the very latest standard.

ISO 900:2015 is awarded for fulfilling criteria for a quality management system by an organisation, by ensuring a structured approach   with an increased importance given to risk as compared to before. The accreditation is based on a number of quality management principles such as strong customer focus, motivation and implication of top management, process approach and continual improvement within an organisation.

Ross Marotta, STANLEY Security’s Compliance Manager, has been the driving factor in this process, yet only joined the company at the start of the year.

Here he tells us about his role in the transition from the 2008 to the 2015 standard...

“My role at STANLEY Security combines both quality and compliance.  Although there’s a lot of different aspects to it, a key part of the job is making sure the company establishes standards or policies for what it wants to achieve or for its activities and that it does not deviate from these.  I’m not exactly ‘policing’ the company; instead it’s more of a role to help people to understand why these policies are in place.

“For me it’s very interesting as I get to touch on every area of the business, apart from finance as that’s very heavily regulated already.  I’m in something of a unique position in that I’m involved in every part of the business and can step in to any department and work with them.  So far, I’ve worked most closely with our sales teams, Service department and HR.

“As the deadline for ISO 9001:2015 accreditation was September I have been pretty much focussed on this since joining the company in January.  I’ve been going through documents, processes, policies and procedures to ensure they actually match with what we’re doing and meet the 2015 standard.

"The ISO 9001:2015 accreditation is proof we can provide customers with consistent, reliable and fit for purpose solutions and services.  It can provide assurance that we listen to our customers and respond proactively to customer feedback.  Customers can also be secure in the knowledge that any issues are identified and resolved quickly.

“I’ve been running training sessions and in management meetings I’ve been explaining the changes required.  I’ve been showing management their responsibilities and explaining the implications and what they need to be aware of and monitor in their own teams.  It’s been interesting and people have been very receptive as ultimately these changes are designed to benefit customers   by proving that our products and services work and meet legal and industry standards and that, if there is an issue, we have a process to rectify it and ensure it doesn’t happen again.  It’s also designed to make staff  more efficient by standardising systems and procedures.  At the same time, we’re not going overboard and the procedures we have will still allow for flexibility so that we can work with customers in a way which suits them.

“Getting over the hurdle of implementing the new ISO standard will have a much better outcome for the business.”

For Ross, the move from the 2008 to the 2015 ISO 9001 accreditation hasn’t been the only change he’s been involved in: “my last role was in the automotive industry in Australia”.  So why the UK?  “I came for the weather” he jokes.

STANLEY Security’s ISO 9001:2015 accreditation has been awarded through the National Security Inspectorate (NSI), a leading certification body for the security and fire protection sectors in the UK. Through the NSI, we are NACOSS Gold approved with respect to the design, installation and maintenance of electronic security systems and Fire Gold approved with respect to the design, installation, commissioning and handover, verification and maintenance of fire detection and alarm systems.
