Maker Month

Inspiring makers throughout October

At Stanley Black & Decker, October means Maker Month – a month dedicated to recognising those who make things… products, solutions, innovations. In our Security business, we’re dedicating this year’s Maker Month to recognising Security Technicians – the makers of safer, healthier and more efficient environments.

In addition to celebrating our Technicians this month, we’re also committing to support future Technicians to develop the skills needed to enter the industry and succeed in their careers.

Why We’re Supporting Future Technicians

Why we’re supporting future technicians

10 million jobs remain unfilled globally, due to gaps in skills. Stanley Black & Decker is committed to closing that gap.

As a part of the Stanley Black & Decker family, it’s our responsibility to close the gap in the security industry. That’s why we’re providing opportunities for people to develop the vocational and trade skills needed to work in our industry as Install and Service Technicians.

We’re working together with schools and colleges in North America, the UK, and Europe to provide funding and support to students with technical interests.

Students will be able to apply for a scholarship through their school/college, and successful applicants will be awarded at the start of 2021.

Why become a security technician?

Security Technicians play a vital role in making working and living environments safer, healthier, and more efficient. They are on the frontline, installing innovative security technologies at our customers' locations, and helping them to manage and solve problems.

The dynamic nature of the Security Technician role means no two working days are ever the same - but each day provides an opportunity to innovate and make a difference.

Hear it directly from some of our technicians…

“I’ve been with STANLEY Security for about 12 years working to provide great service to our customers by repairing their fire, burglar, CCTV, and access control systems. I’m so proud to be part of such a strong, diverse, knowledgeable, supportive team.” Theresa Anderson Service Technician, STANLEY Security
