Utilities National Grid
Integrated Access Control, Intruder Detection and Staff Protection
CASE STUDY: National Grid
Client Snapshot
National Grid Group plc is an international networks company, headquartered in London that builds, owns and operates electricity, gas and telecommunication networks.
Its principal activities are in the regulated electricity industry, where it owns and operates the transmission network in England and Wales, and transmission and distribution networks in the north eastern United States.
The Requirement
STANLEY was awarded a contract from the National Grid Group plc The powerful integration of STANLEY systems to design and install an integrated Access Control alarm management and staff protection solution in its 218 substations across the UK. These all had to be networked to its central monitoring facility
The Solution
The integrated network package installed by STANLEY Security enables National Grid personnel to monitor and administer all security and safety aspects of 218 sites, from its regional headquarters in Warwickshire using a PSTN network. Personnel are able to activate and deactivate the security fencing around each of National Grid's remote sites, and only allow access to authorised engineers.
The integration of the staff protection pagers logs an alarm call should an employee working on-site get into difficulty. Using STANLEY Security staff protection pager, the message is not only relayed back to the headquarters via a Wireless Alarm Manager (WAM) and the PAC network, but also to colleagues' pagers on-site. All onsite alarms including perimeter fencing are monitored using the PAC for Windows network.
