Fire Suppression Systems

When it comes to protecting your business against fire, suppression systems are the ideal choice. Perfect for IT and data centres, they can help stave off the fire before it develops and takes hold, neutralising the environment effectively to ensure flames won't spread.

What are fire suppression systems?

Fire suppression systems can refer to any number of automatic systems designed to control and neutralise fires without the need for human intervention. These can range from conventional fire sprinklers, to more advanced designs involving gases and condensed aerosols. Fire suppression systems are also the best choice if you're looking to prevent an outbreak of fire, rather than deal with the consequences. By utilising early detection measures, such as smoke detection suppression systems can then get to work in helping neutralise the environment so a fire can't take hold. This can involve reducing the amount of oxygen in a room, or deploy heat absorption technologies.

Types of fire suppression systems

There's several different types of fire suppression systems, each utilising different approaches to fire prevention and suppression. Systems relying on inert gas focus on eliminating levels of oxygen in the environment, reducing the chance of combustion and preventing fires from really taking hold. Such systems reduce oxygen levels low enough to stave off combustion, while leaving them safe enough for re-entry by individuals. Chemical fire suppression is another leading system. Utilising chemicals similar to refrigerants, these types of systems are highly concentrated, requiring less space for chemical cylinders. Their more compact nature, along with the fact they don't interfere with oxygen levels too much, makes them a suitable choice for small spaces.

Conventional Fire Suppression Systems

We offer more traditional fire suppression systems for businesses. One tried and tested a way to nip fire outbreaks in the bud is conventional water sprinkler systems. These systems work by dousing the target area, rendering them inert and preventing the fire from consuming them as fuel. While they're more affordable and less invasive, they can end up damaging equipment and assets, making them unsuitable for data centres and environments with a lot of electronics. Another worthwhile consideration is high expansion foam suppression. While these systems still utilises water to an extent, they're a solid choice for larger spaces. The steady expansion of foam allows for flammable agents to be diffused quickly, rendering even larger spaces inert.
